Summer School , 2010

This is why I love teaching kindergarteners and first graders. They are so honest, and they make me feel SO good!
Apparently, I started my teaching career when I was three years old. We lived in East Africa then, and since there were very few children nearby, I befriended and bossed all the animals I could – frogs, chickens, caterpillars, African tortoises, locusts, and our big black Labrador, Judy.
My parents traveled a lot when I was young, so I was sent away to boarding school when I was six years old. This experience had a profound impact on my career choice! I hated school. Those teachers were TOUGH – but I survived, and decided I never wanted to be like any of them. Children are supposed to be loved and respected. I eventually got British teaching credential from the University of London, an American Bachelor’s degree in psychology, a California teaching credential, a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, and a Montessori credential.
I ended up at Crocker in 1995, having taken a thirteen year maternity leave to raise three wonderful girls and, our only son Jack. Our family increasingly expanded and contracted over the years as we adopted and witnessed the demise of an assortment of cats, dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, mice, and iguana, and a tortoise. (This is why I now own shares in Clairol Hair Products!)
The most important things in my life are: my husband, my kids, my friends, my animals and my Crocker family.
My interests: children, animals, art, music, travelling, American Idol, yoga, skiing, walking, good food, good wine, and intelligent people.

I am very excited to be part of the kindergarten team at Crocker Highlands. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and attended the University of CA, Irvine. After earning my bachelor’s degree, I participated in the Japanese Exchange and Teaching Programme and lived and worked in Japan for two years. I began my teaching career with the Los Angeles Unified School District and received my teaching credential through their District Intern Program. I taught kindergarten for 6 years and earned my master’s degree in Educational Administration from CalState, Northridge. My husband, Cliff and I moved to the Bay Area in 2007. We have two daughters, Raegan (9) and Renee (5). We live in Moraga with our mischievous Siberian Husky, Jace. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, snowboarding, hanging out with the family and sleeping as much as I can. I look forward to an amazing year of learning and fun.
