Did you know that you need a negative TB test every four years if you volunteer in the classroom or on field trips?
Why? Tuberculosis (TB) is a communicable disease caused by the bacteria, mycobacterium tuberculosis. It can be spread from person to person when someone with TB sings, laughs, or coughs, aerosolizing the bacteria.
Alameda County had the third highest TB case rates in the state from 2000 to 2002. Alameda County’s 2004 case rate is ten times what California considers to be healthy.
To make sure that the disease is not spread in the classroom, parent volunteers are required to be tested every four years and have the results of this test on file with the school office.
Thanks to all of the volunteers who already have submitted current TB test results.
Watch the weekly bulletin for information about TB testing to be held at Crocker early this year. Contact Melissa Luna for more information.
