Ms. Anderson’s Profile Page

ms_anderson_profile_framedI am grateful that my life’s journey has taken me to Crocker Highlands School. I grew up in Santa Monica, CA and still visit my parents and sister there. Although I feel more at home in Northern California I love the beaches and beautiful sunsets down south. I went East to college and then headed directly to this area, knowing that I’d be here for life. I love the landscape, the sense of openness to different ideas, and the friendly people.

I chose to pursue teaching over my other great interest, psychology. I received my credential from Berkeley, coincidentally doing one of my student teaching assignments at Crocker 20 years ago! I’ve taught special education, first and second grade, student teachers, and preschool over the course of my career. Child development and early childhood education are my greatest areas of expertise. I am especially interested in literacy and have worked as a reading specialist with students in all the primary grades.

I have a daughter, Mia, who attends Crocker and we live in the neighborhood. It is lovely to walk the three blocks with her to work, waving to all of you. I am a life long reader and runner. I love to hike along our trails and am learning more about our native plants and animals. I spin wool, knit and weave. Yoga, baking, and gardening fill up any other extra time. I do all these things with Mia and am inspired to bring these activities into the classroom. I learn new things whenever I share my interests with students and families.
